On the 2 floor of a building in Tomigaya, ESCALERA Dining Bar Escalera welcomes guests with a warm interior furnished with substantial wooden chairs. The bar has been a fixture in the Yoyogi-Hachiman area for more than 40 years, and its relaxed, overseas mountain-lodge atmosphere offers a welcome pause from the pace of everyday life.
One of its particular draws is the chance to enjoy substantial, warming food as well as drinks. The menu includes small dishes that pair well with alcohol, as well as a seasonal pot-au-feu of vegetables and meat, served in limited quantities on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It makes the bar a comfortable choice for a drink that can also take the place of a meal.
The back bar is well stocked, with a particular emphasis on gin and a broad selection of labels, alongside whiskies, rums and wines from around the world. Calvados is another highlight, with 4 varieties to explore; take time to compare the rounded flavours of this apple spirit.
There is a counter for a quieter evening, while tables are available at the back. The bar is open Tuesday to Saturday from 18:00 until 0:00 the following day. Reservations and credit-card payments are accepted.
